Role of women in Combat-:

Women have crossed various milestones and all aspects of life. They are also actively coming forward in large numbers to join the defence services, but the role of women in combat forces is still a matter of debate today. In india earlier they were allowed to serve only for a limited time period after joining the service through  short service commission. In 2020  when the supreme court asked army to open the doors of permanent commission to women in all non-combart roles including as leaders in future.

Journey of women in Armed forces-:

- Women have been a part of Army medical corps since 1958.

- Since 1992 they began to be inducted in other branches, but only in short service commission.

- In 2008 women were first inducted as permanent commissioned officers in legal and education corps.

- Meanwhile in 2019 the government has started recruiting women in the corps of military police. 

- In Indian Air force women are now inducted in both combat and support roles. 

- However in 1994 women joined Air force as pilots in support roles only. 

Gunjan saxena and Sreevidya rajan were among the first to fly in a combat zone during the kargil war. 

Bhawna kant become first women fighter pilot to qualify to undertake combat missions.

Assam rifle had inducted a batch of female soldiers who will be deployed in the search operations , mobile check post and road opening operations.

 

Israel has a large number of women in the armed forces, however they are not alloted active battlefield duties. 

Challenges-: 

- Women tend to be more attached to their families. Thus their is great mental stress in them. 

- Requirements of social support to sustain themselves during prolong sepration from family.
