Equality of Educational opportunities

The term equality means the absence of special privileges to any section of the society, and the provision of adequate oppportunities for all individuals without any discrimination. 
The preamble of indian constitution secures to all citizens of india equality of status and opportunity. 
Equality of opportunity means to give equal chance to every individual for the development of his capacity. There should be no discrimination between one individual and another. 

According to National education commission- "One of the important social objective of education is to equalise opportunity enabling the backward or underprivileged classes or individuls to use education or a level for the improvement of their conditions". 
Every member of the society, irrespective of gender, caste, religion, place and language etc, will get equal opportunities on the basis of their ability to get education. 


Equality of educational opportunity includes provision of education for all, irrespective of religion, caste, and location. It doesn't mean identity of educational opportunity but a means best suited to the intelligence and aptitude of every student. Therefore, the national policy of education (NPE) 1986 emphasized means "to provide for equal opportunity to all not only in access but also in the conditions for success". 

Need for Equalization of Education : 
Equality of education opportunity is due to the following reasons-
-  Establishing a society which ensures the same equality and social justice for all. 
-  Through education success of democratic institution is assured. 
-  Education is a human resource development enriches the individual and the whole society. 


Equality of opprtunities means that all members of a society are given equal chances to pursue wealth and enter any occupation or social class.
Equality of opportunity does not mean that everyone will have equal incomes and equal status. Opportunity for education should be made available to all. 

"Equality of educational opportunity implies that educational services should be accessible to everyone respectful of their abilities and interests. Using technology in education has been considered to increase access to both knowledge and resources for students"
